Sometimes it starts with the wood

I had this piece of beautiful rift sawn white oak with a huge crook in it. Bad enough that I got it for a song, and curved enough that it’s hard to get anything wider than ~3” out of it. It sat lonely for a while till I recently picked up a really spectacular piece of Andaman Padauk from my favorite store.

I’ve needed a place to sit in the shop. I’ve been close half a dozen times to clicking buy on some cheap Amazon thing. But what’s the point in having a shop if you can’t use it to make needlessly fancy things?
